Four Guiding Principles

Rhythm Kids was created with four principles that guide our classes and the developmental activities we create for children. As is often said by music educators, the most important musical instrument is the person and we strive to connect the voice, the body and the instrument.

Rhythm is a primal understanding that we carry within us
We carry this in our heartbeat, our movement (walking, etc.) and in our language

Rhythm is a basic, fundamental skill
Rhythm is a musical skill that children can learn, develop and strengthen

Rhythm is foundational to other disciplines
Singing, dancing and playing an instrument (even sports) all rely on a strong sense of rhythm

Creating a culture of "play" allows children to flourish musically
It starts at home and continues in school and, if we have our way, throughout a child's life

These photos above show the Rhythm Kids experience for all ages

The first is a young 2 1/2 year old boy experiencing the sounds of the African dunun drum. The second photo is a Drum Like An Animal class for precschool-age children turning scarves into pirate bandanas while dancing and singing with their parents. The third photo is taken from a massive drum circle for 300+ middle school and high school children where we jammed, danced and sang for a solid hour--it was awesome. The last photo is the coolest as it features Rhythm Kids events presenter Dan with his high school drum student Luke, who now has the musical ability to join us for events. Like we said, we hope music is something that lasts throughout a child's life.

We love what we do here at Rhythm Kids!
